Refreshing Easy Strawberry Sangria (1)

Sangria can be enjoyed all year round, but especially during the summer when the days are warm and a refreshing drink is all you want.

This strawberry sangria is so easy to make – a mixture of wine, fruit, mint, spices, and sweetener, it really is the perfect summer drink.

This drink originates from Spain and can be made in a variety of ways. Traditional sangria is made with red wine, herbs, spices, and fruit. For this version, I use sparkling red wine to give the drink a refreshing fizziness and strawberries are the main fruit. It’s so delicious.

This recipe makes a small batch of sangria, but you can easily scale it up to serve more for a party. It’s a great drink for a brunch celebration, summer party, or just for sipping on the porch. If you’ve never made homemade sangria, I think you will love this easy recipe.

Refreshing Easy Strawberry Sangria (3)

Pour the sangria over ice in glasses for serving. Garnish with fruit and mint leaves, if desired.

Can you use frozen strawberries?

Yes, frozen strawberries are great in sangria. Once they thaw they’re not always as pretty as fresh strawberries, but the drink will still taste the same.

Can you use ground spices instead of whole ones?

I don’t recommend using ground spices because they will make your drink a little grainy. Whole spices flavor the drink without doing that, so they work a lot better.

What other kinds of wine can you use to make sangria?

You can use red or white wine to make sangria. Use a dry wine that you like to drink – sometimes I userosé, it works great! For white wines, a sauvignon blanc or chardonnay work well, too.

I don’t have fine sugar. What else can I use?

Fine sugar dissolves better than granulated sugar and will make your dress less grainy. If you don’t have any, you can use your food processor to break down granulated sugar into fine sugar. Just pulse a few times.

Or, you can use simple syrup instead of sugar. It’s just equal parts sugar and water that you boil on the stove over high heat until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool and then add it to your drink.

How to store it

Store the Sangria in the fridge. It will keep for up to 4 days.

What else can you add to sangria?

Fruit:Try adding fresh peaches, grapes, apples, lime slices, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries – there are lots of options!

Liqueur:For an extra punch, try adding a little fruit liqueur. Orange liqueur is a great choice, but there are many options – choose one that goes with the fruit flavors in your sangria.

Brandy:Traditional Spanish sangria is made with wine and brandy. For a twist, swap the brandy with rum.

Pour yourself a refreshing glass of strawberry sangria and it will feel like summer any time of year. It’s so simple and easy – Enjoy!
