Are the EU's plan to ramp up biomethane production to 35 billion cubic metres (bcm) by 2030 "both unrealistic and unsustainable"?Analysis shows the use of most of these feedstocks at the volumes proposed would bring unintended consequences, such as encouraging more livestock production and food-feed-fuel competition. At worst, embedding "dangerously unsustainable agricultural, land use and energy practices".It's clear biomethane will play an integral part of decarbonisation across the EU, but targets need to be sustainable across the board. https://lnkd.in/eVXybCrJ

Developing water efficient rice varieties should be part of the initiative by IRRI since flooding rice fields encourage anaerobic respiration contributing to emission of more methane gas.

🐄 Did you know that each cow emits approximately 334 grams of methane per day? Methane is a gas around 34 times more powerful than CO2 and is a major contributor to the greenhouse effect. 🚀 Read how the CANMILK project is tackling this challenge and paving the way for a more sustainable future in dairy farming in this news article from YERUN - Young European Research Universities.➡ https://lnkd.in/eZpnSHgw #methane #methaneemission #eumethanestrategy

Easy way is conducting 1-2 consultation in each project state, generate few documents, done. However, it is very crucial to establish a continuous feedback mechanism at mammoth scale to reach out to 14000+ project farmers across 11 states in India. Inspired with above quote we at Bayer Rice Carbon Program embarked on the road less travelled to reach out to our farmers, by scheduling multiple stakeholder consultations across location, in a planned manner. We chalked out all the requirements for conducting an ideal stakeholder consultation meeting 2 months ahead of actual date.𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻·Strict compliance with Carbon Registry Guidelines ·Effective communication to stakeholders·Planning the schedule for stakeholder consultation in line with farmers availability·Cost saving and budget control. 🌍In order to meet the requirements of the Paris Agreement, agricultural emissions need to be reduced by 30% by 2030. However, emissions are projected to continue increasing by 2030.🌾The agrifood sector contributes 30% of the global greenhouse gas emissions and half of these emissions came from the farm gate in 2020. On the brighter side, however, by improving soil carbon stocks, emissions at the farm gate can potentially be completely insetted at the farm level, through carbon farming.🛰At CinSOIL we enable the agrifood sector to implement carbon farming at scale with a robust and scalable MMRV tool for soil carbon stocks, making the transition to carbon farming easier🌱➡️Read more in our blog post:https://lnkd.in/d-EP83bs
